- Neilos of Rossano
- Saint (died 1004) and monk; writer of hymns. He was an exemplar of Italo-Greek monasticism (q.v.), founding the monastery of St. Adrian and subsequently living with a band of followers near Montecassino (q.v.) for 15 years. His life and career demonstrate how powerful was the influence of Byzantine culture and spirituality on Italy (q.v.) during the Middle Ages.
